Tip #87: Shades for YOUR Face Shape

Do you lose you sunglasses all the time?  I DO...
Well, let's say that I lose expensive sunglasses.  The cheap ones I seem to keep around forever.  THAT is why I only buy cheap sunglasses.
Ross is my favorite store to buy cheap sunglasses.  Lots of styles to choose from and usually around the $5 price (give or take based on designer).

OVAL:  You can wear just about any style of sunglasses.  Try different trends!
ROUND: Choose narrows, rectangular frames to lengthen your face and downplay the fullness of your cheeks.
SQUARE: Try a glamorous, round Jackie O pair to soften the angles of your jawline.  Big frames make your face appear smaller.
OBLONG: To help your face look shorter, select taller lenses and check for side details to provide some width.

Tip #86: How to Wear a MaxiSkirt

What is a Maxi Skirt?  It is definitely a flash back to the 70's (that would be 1970, not 1870!)  Maxiskirt is the opposite of a Miniskirt.... instead of being short, a Maxiskirt is ankle length-skirt.
Another plus?  With a Maxiskirt, you don't have to shave your legs :)

So, how do you wear a Maxiskirt that enhances your figure instead of making you look frumpy?

KEEP IN MIND

  1. It's not for cleaning floors.  While the skirt should be long, you don't want it dragging on the sidewalk.  Depending on your height, your may need platforms or wedges to ensure the hem is at least an inch of the ground.
  2. Loose Bottoms require fitted tops.  Otherwise, you'll be the girl swimming in her outfit.  Consider a slim T, shrunken blazer, or a cropped chunky knit.
  3. Show Some Skin. Since you are completely covered from the waist down, contrast with a V-neck or an off-the-shoulder blouse and sandals.
REMEMBER... this style may not be for your body type.  Just because it is in-style does not mean you have to wear it.

Tip #85: False Lashes

LOVE false eyelashes now that I am not afraid of them :)  I wore them to my 20th high school reunion (see picture).

  1. Separate your own fringe evenly by applying a lightweight mascara.  If you curl your eyelashes, curl them gently/lightly.
  2. For individual lashes, handle with a slanted-tip tweezer, dab on a pinhead of glue. Gently tap lash to your palm to remove any excess.  Allow adhesive to partially dry by fanning for 5 seconds.
  3. For full eyelash set, squeeze eyelash glue onto the back of your hand and run the eyelash along it. Blow softly from edge to edge to make the glue a little less runny to apply your lashes. Press from end to end and hold until the glue dries (30 seconds to a minute, or sometimes less depending upon the adhesive). This allows the glue to set so that when you lift your fingertips from it, the lashes won't come along for the ride.
  4. Position false lashes at the roots of your natural ones.  Apply from outer eye, three quarters of the way to the center of the eye.  Once you've placed them, you're done! False lashes don't need more mascara.
The biggest mistake people make is applying the false lashes above instead of just at, or a little below their own lash line.

Put on eye makeup before lashes and foundation, so you don't end up removing foundation when wiping away flecks.

You can trim down falsies after you've applied them if they seem too long.  Use manicure scissors to snip from the inner to the outer corners of your eye, leaving the outer lashes longest.

The following are the best lashes listed most expensive to least (as consistently reported on various websites):
  1. SHU UEMURA
  2. MAC
  3. EYLURE
  4. REVLON
  5. ARDELL

Tip #84: How to Wear White Pants!!

It is White Pant season again!
A pair of crisp White Pants/Capris look SO GOOOOOD with a color that makes your skin glow (and NOT from sweat)!!!

But, if not worn correctly, they can be unforgiving of every lump and dimple... yuk!
  1. Consider "Nude" (i.e. undies that match your skin color) shapewear that smooths your waist and thighs for a leaner silhouette.
  2. To eliminate visible panty lines, select seamless styles or a Thong.
  3. If the front pockets show through the garment, turn it inside out, sew the pockets shut near the seam and trim them off.

If you know you are going to the store to try on white pants, PLEASE wear the appropriate undergarments!  (Or you may never find a pair you like).

Tip #83: What to wear if you are CURVY

No matter your body type, the goal is to appear to have an hourglass.  If you have a curvy figure, then this will be easy to achieve.

Here are some additional ways to enhance your God-given curves :)
  • A medium-to-low neckline accentuates the upper portion of the body and balances out the overall look.
  • Find a dress that nips in at the waist.
  • Keep away from oversize or tops; they don't enhance your natural figure.
  • Opt for form-fitting cuts.

Tip #82: Jumpsuits & Rompers: Not Just for Toddlers Anymore!

OMG... How did it get to be June 7th?!?  Shame on me for going over a week without a tip.  I have been working hard on getting my last 2 booklets published (Summer and Autumn).  Winter and Spring Color Booklets are available at www.hipbargainchick.com or e-mail me at HipBargainChick@yahoo.com.

On another side note.... was so excited this morning to receive a text from a college roommate, Deb.  She bought a Spring Color Analysis Booklet a few weeks ago.  She went shopping (with her book in her purse) and bought her first Violet colored shirt that looks fabulous on her!  Rock on, Deb!!

JUMPSUITS!!!
Apparently, they aren't just for toddlers or mechanics this summer :)  I have seen them short and long.  How do you wear this trend without looking like a child?
  • If the Jumpsuit is long sleeved, try cuffing the sleeve and adding bangle and/ or chunky bracelets.
  • Try wrapping a sweater around the waist or add a funky belt.
  • For the floral jumpsuit, add height with espadrille wedges.
  • Black Jumpsuit?  Add a statement necklace and high-heeled sandals.
